Our Escape to the Cape

Imagine walking on a sandy beach with the bright sun shining down on you. Imagine feeling the sand sticking in between your toes like glue when you walk without shoes. Notice the fresh breeze coming from the coast which may make you cold. Imagine walking around a town being the only one there. This is what a normal offseason weekend looks like on the Cape.

Now imagine the sun on your skin, the breeze in your hair, and the town but with more people. People who are walking six feet away from others in order to not contract the disease. Dogs who are out with their owners having the best time of their lives. Restaurants that can only serve food via takeout. Shops that can not let more than 10 people in the store at a time. This is the new normal of our lives due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Coronavirus has impacted many aspects of society. Schools have closed, colleges have moved to online learning, and toilet paper has been out of stock. During this time of Coronavirus, many families have chosen to escape to various locations including Cape Cod. The Cape is known for its famous New England beaches and its fresh seafood. In fact, my family has done that just to see a different environment. We have walked all of the beaches one could think of on the Cape. If you can’t have a “getaway”, I highly suggest going outside for a walk if you can or just doing something you enjoy.

While the coronavirus outbreak has made everyone adapt to a new way of living, we must come together and support each other as a community. We will get through this. We just need to practice the important things like social distancing and hand-washing in order to protect others from getting it. Stay safe and healthy during these times.
